What Remedy Should I Take For Fungal Infection
23/04/2019

Fungal infections are common infections in humans which occur when an invading fungus takes over an area of the body and the immune system is too weak to handle it. Fungi live in the air, soil, water, and plants and some fungi also live naturally in the human body. Like any other microbes, there are helpful and harmful fungi. When harmful fungi invade the body, they can be difficult to kill, as they can survive in the environment and re-infect the person again.
Symptoms of Fungal Infection
There are many types of fungal infections but the common symptoms are redness, itching, skin changes, cracking or peeling skin, blisters, rashes, thrush, patches, rings, etc.
Types of Fungal Infection
1. Athlete’s foot or Tinea pedis
This is a common fungal infection that affects the foot. It is commonly associated with sports and athletes because the fungus grows well in warm, moist environments, such as wet socks and shoes, sports equipment, and in locker rooms.
Prevention methods include allowing the feet plenty of air to breathe and keeping them clean and dry. It is ideal to wear sandals in public showers or locker rooms.
2. Yeast infection or candidiasis
This is a common form of fungal overgrowth in women, usually caused by Candida albicans. This disrupts the normal balance of the bacteria and yeast in the vagina. The causes include antibiotics, stress, hormone imbalances, poor eating habits, etc. Candida also causes fungal infection of the toenails and diaper rash.
Prevention includes wearing loose-fitting garments made from soft cotton fibres, and washing undergarments in hot water.
3. Jock itch or Tinea cruris
This is another common fungal skin infection affecting the moist areas of the body, such as the groin, buttocks, and inner thighs. It is more common in summer or in warm, humid areas. It spreads through direct contact with an infected person or an object carrying the fungus.
Prevention includes wearing loose-fitting natural fibers, such as cotton underwear, avoiding contact with an infected person, and avoiding shared items, such as towels and sporting equipment.
4. Ringworm or Tinea corporis
This is caused by a fungus that lives on dead tissues, such as the skin, hair, and nails. Ringworm is the fungus that causes both jock itch and athlete’s foot. When it appears anywhere else on the body, the infection is just called ringworm. It can be identified by circular wheels all over the body.
Prevention can be achieved by basic hygiene, keeping the skin clean and dry, wearing sandals in public showers or locker rooms and avoiding shared items and towels.
