How to Prevent Skin Diseases this Winter Season?

It is a well-known fact that diseases related to the skin and respiratory system become more common in winter. This is due to the fact that there is an increased preference to remain indoors in winter and also because the frequency of bathing reduces in some parts of the world where it may be too cold or where facilities to heat water may not be much developed. It can also be because there is an increase in the dryness of the texture of the skin in winter causing chapping, cracking and roughness.
Diseases such as psoriasis and urticaria also show a cyclical pattern and have a tendency to increase in the cold. To add to a load of skin diseases are the infectious variety such as ringworm and jock itch which also show an increased number of cases in winter from remaining covered for prolonged periods of time and also because the frequency of changing clothes also lowers.
Some of the methods that can be used to prevent Skin Diseases in Winter are as follows:
1. Stay Active
The most important tip for perhaps all seasons and all diseases would be to remain active but it is especially important in the case of skin diseases because staying active and making exercise a part of your routine will lead to sweating and heat being produced which will make the person more willing to bathe more frequently.
2. Take care of Hygiene
Although the temptation to repeat clothes in winter is strong, repeating the same clothes over long periods of time without them being washed will definitely lead to skin diseases from microbes being collected on them each time. Make sure you wash your clothes frequently and dry them well too.
3. Sit in the Sun
Not only is this very comforting in winter, heat and UV rays from the sunlight naturally prevent the infections on your skin from developing. In fact, clothes should also be dried in the sun even after being machine dried since it prevents any microbes from growing or remaining on them.

4. Bathe with Warm Water
It is commonly advised to patients suffering from skin diseases to both bathe and wash their clothes in warm water, possibly even adding a disinfectant such as Dettol to the water, to help in the healing of skin diseases. Make sure that the water is not too hot though since a lot of conditions such as temperature-sensitive urticaria are triggered by the sudden change in body temperature.
5. Use a Moisturiser
A moisturiser forms a protective shield on your skin and prevents it from being injured or dehydrated. This prevents the skin from getting chapped or broken which further prevents skin diseases.
6. Visit a Doctor
If the condition is severe or if you have a history of skin diseases that become activated in winter then it is advisable to visit a doctor beforehand and get tests and treatment done if needed.
