Our skin has small pores which are present all over it. These pores contain oil glands which secrete oil, dead skin and bacteria also. Pimples are nothing but clogged-up pores of the skin. These are known as acne in medical terminology.
It occurs commonly during the adolescence period of life or usually between 12 to 17 years of age when prominent hormonal changes occur in the body. Pimples are a common disorder of the oil glands (known as sebaceous glands) present in the skin. These glands are present beside every hair follicle and secrete oil (sebum). When excess sebum and dead cells block the ducts of these glands, these secretions get struck inside and these oil glands swell up leading to pain, swelling and redness in that portion of the skin. When these clogged-up pores get infected with bacteria, pus formation starts inside and it becomes a pustule.
