Insomnia is a highly prevalent sleep disorder. Individuals with insomnia find it difficult to fall asleep and/or stay asleep. If you are suffering from insomnia, it is more likely that you would feel daytime sleepiness, lethargy, and generally unwell both mentally and physically.
Insomnia: Causes
Insomnia can be caused by various psychiatric and medical conditions. Some of the causes of insomnia can be unhealthy sleep habits, specific substances, and/or certain biological factors. Recently, researchers have begun to think about insomnia as a problem of the brain. According to the research, the brain is unable to stop being awake, thus, causing insomnia.
There are many medical conditions, which is responsible for insomnia. Examples of medical conditions that can cause insomnia are:

- Gastrointestinal problems such as reflux
- Endocrine problems such as hyperthyroidism
- Arthritis
- Asthma
- Neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease
- Chronic pain
- Low back pain
Medications such as those taken for the common cold and nasal allergies, high blood pressure, heart disease, thyroid disease, birth control, asthma, and depression can also cause insomnia.

Insomnia: Treatment
