23/12/2019

As the season changes, it brings a lot of changes in our body as our body tries to adapt to all the changes happening in our environment. When we are healthy or have strong immunity we adapt to environmental changes without even noticing them. But when our immunity is lower, even a small trigger of change in the environment can affect us. Kids are more prone to these changes as their immunity is lower than that of adults. The commonest infestations from these changes are the common cold and cough.
Common colds and coughs are infections generally caused by viruses and bacteria respectively. It can spread indirectly viz. droplets from an infected person or directly by coming in contact with the infected person or from its infected secretions. Normally our nasal passage defends against any infection by small hairs present inside our nose and constant secretion of mucus in it. But when the immunity is lower they enter our body by overcoming these hurdles from the nasal passage and when invades superficially, cause the common cold. But when these microorganisms invade deeper, they cause a cough with or without a cold.
Symptoms
The symptoms are running nose or stuffed nose and sneezing, which can be present with or without a cough. Cough may be present with or without expectoration. The discharge from the nose can be yellow or green which indicates a bacterial infection. There might be some other accompanying symptoms like headache, tiredness, fever, pain in muscles and loss of appetite. In a few cases where the problem persists for a longer duration or remains untreated, difficulty in breathing may develop along with the rattling of mucus in the chest.
